A Journey to Recovery

Kolbe Academy provides a comprehensive, college preparatory curriculum to all students. The curriculum is designed to challenge students to reach their potential. We seek to create active and curious students who are passionate and excited to learn as well as foster collaboration between students who share a similar recovery journey. At the center of this academic curriculum are Christian values, morals and the principles and tenets of the Catholic Church.

The Kolbe academic community is designed to be small and thus, individualized attention can be given to students who need extra help. The planned curriculum is presented to meet academic and career needs. Through the variety of course offerings, students are invited to become involved in a program of studies that complement and strengthen their God-given talents.

Our student enrollment is designed to be small, so there are mixed-grade levels in each classroom and classroom size is kept at a minimum. This way students can receive individualized attention when needed. In these smaller classroom settings, students will able to connect with teachers, engage peers, work collaboratively and foster social connections with one another.

Complementing the academic program is a focus on service, the fine arts and daily physical education. Kolbe students will have a 15-hour service requirement each year to be completed. Giving back to the community is an important aspect of a student’s growth. As they engage members of the community in volunteer work, students grow socially and personally and come to understand the need to give back to society, an important core value of the 12-Step Program. Kolbe students will also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of fine arts – music, art, drama, choir and dance. These avenues of creative expression are important activities that will allow students to grow artistically and express themselves creatively. Physical education is offered daily as research shows that students in recovery can benefit from daily physical activity and because it improves attitudes and knowledge about overall health, fitness and well-being.

Given the nature of students enrolling at Kolbe Academy at different grade levels and at various times throughout the year, Kolbe Academy will work with each individual student to insure completion of all necessary courses and requirements. Online classes, credit recovery classes, summer school program, one-on-one tutoring, and project-based learning will be employed to allow students to satisfy course requirements.

Kolbe Academy has a partnership with Catholic Virtual for our online academic coursework.  Students will be able to take a variety of courses through this online provider both during the school year and in the summer for credit recovery.  Catholic Virtual strives to provide each student with a high-quality, college preparatory education while allowing them to be immersed in a technology rich, faith-filled environment within the Catholic tradition. We seek also to reach out and share the mutual experiences, wisdom, and resources of like-minded Catholic educators for the benefit of each school and establish a sense of renewed growth in Catholic Education.  Catholic Virtual offers over 350 K-12 courses including AP courses and Career Technical Education courses.
